Teaching Art During A Pandemic
Updated: Jul 17
WOW 2020!!! What is going on?! Just wow!
It is fair to say that this year has been one of the most challenging to date! 2020 has been a crazy time and it is only June as I write this. This is most definitely a time that is testing us and really showing us what we are made of, how do we manage our stress, how are we managing isolation, missing family, being far away from home etc etc. i have been in some stressful situations in my life I battled cancer, I worked in a prison, I kind feel I manage stress well but this is a whole new ball game. I will write another blog soon about the things I did during this time to help me be productive and thrive during this time, maybe I can give people some inspiration to do the same. After all we are going to be dealing with Covid for a while.
I have never had to teach online before and I am sure I wasn't the only one, it has definitely been a learning curve for me and all previous lesson plans and ideas were very quickly adapted, scrapped and changed. For me looking back on this experience I am extremely proud of the art lessons I was able to adapt and create in a very short space of time. I rewrote, planned and delivered a brand new art project for my Grade 8 students which focused on the world we are currently living in and the things we are all experiencing as a collective. Singapore is out of the circuit breaker now so I can look at this project in a reflective way and I am blown away with what the students were able to create. I am in the middle of writing the lesson plan for this online art project for other art teachers which I will be selling soon. For now here are a few of the artworks. Enjoy!
